Ealing Riots

As reported in the news recently London was ransacked by groups of youths and criminals looting and destroying anything they could. But to many peoples surprise Ealing, a leafy middle class part of London, was targeted by these mindless thugs. What was strange about the rioting in Ealing was the type of shops that were targeted. Shops like organic foods, hairdressers and in-particular a baby clothes shop were smashed up and destroyed. But the question remains why this 'leafy middle class' part of London was attacked.

As a resident of Ealing i decided to go out and take some pictures of the destruction that was made by the maniacs. Most people have seen footage on YouTube of thugs trying to break into different shops and i wanted to see for myself what had happened to my local community. I went out armed with my camera and took some basic photographs of the destruction around Ealing.

Editing Styles in Music Videos - Drizzy Drake

I love music videos and the way they are created. Recently i have been watching videos for the style that has been used. The music helps but the use of different colour correction, framing, saturation, editing style has really stood out to me recently. The editing of the video doesn't get as much praise as it should do, instead audiences are more interested in what is in the music videos, rather than how it has been created.

For example the new Drake video Marvins Room is one of my favourite music videos at the moment. Not because i particulary like the song, which i do, but because of the different styles used in the  edit of the video. From the first frame the street lights are completely burnt out and over exposed to create a simple but extremely effective effect. In the third frame we see the colours burnt out again on the car's headlights, it adds a different kind of texture the video. The use of the purple tone, almost a purple sepia effect all the way through compliments the music and the edit. Different forms of layering are used throughout as well to link frames together and give the audience that 'drunk' feel as Drake is drinking in the bar. All these tools compliment the lyrics and the music and gives us a real feeling for what the music is about.

I love the way that certain cuts occur in tandem with the beat of the music, it is timed to perfection and really adds to the story of the video. What is really interesting about this video is that the yellows, oranges and reds are totally over exposed. But i think that this effect works incredibly well with the purple/burgundy filter used throughout. Too many music videos , in the current climate, try to use massive budgets and create amazing sequences, but the thing that stands out in this video is the editing tools used to create a really effective and simple music video. What makes this video so interesting to me is the use of colour throughout and the consistency in the different cuts and how they go in tandem with the music.

Anyway check the video i am definitely a fan of this one.

India - Amazing!!!!

So on my travels the first place that I visited was India. Armed and ready to go with my brand new camera, and traveling head on, I was extremely excited to get my trip underway. Me and my mate Aman were about to embark on the trip of a lifetime.

I thought that India would be the perfect place for us both to get stuck in and experience such a different culture from our own and we were not dissapointed. As soon as we landed in Mumbai it was all systems go. Everything was so manic, from the taxi to our hostel to walking down the street to get a drink. It was crazy something i will never forget. I couldn't wait to unpack my bag, grab my camera and go and see what Mumbai has to offer.

I was really excited to take some photographs because India is famous for having such vibrant colours and incredible sites. I got snapping straight away and managed to get some really good photographs. It was absolutely amazing, such a contrast from London.

These photographs are some of my favourite from India. I took these photos on my Nikon D3100 DSLR with a 18-55mm Lens, with the use of a little bit of Photoshop i think they have come out really well. Feel free to comment on your favourite pictures in this collection and whether or not you enjoyed your experience of Mumbai just as much as i did.

Here we go.....the first blog from Beyond.the LEN5*. For a while now I have been thinking about starting a blog, posting up my own personal Photography and Videos to put myself into the public domain, so here I go!! This blog is basically an opportunity to showcase my skills, whether it be Photography, Editing or Producing. Having traveled around the world i want to share my photographs and experiences with other people.

As well as all this exciting stuff I will be posting Music Videos and Photography that is currently out there in the big wide world that has caught my eye. I have a real passion for Music Videos and love the different styles used when producing them, so this will be apparent in my blog. I will also be conducting interviews with Director's, Cameramen and DOP's (Director of Photography) to give people an insight into the production process on set. And if possible I will also post up photographs from working on set.

Anyway keep your eyes peeled as I will now be updating regularly, all up and coming photographers, producers, directors etc would be welcome to showcase their skills on this blog as well.
